Marketing 101 for Artists
|
SICA-To Be Determined |
One - 2 hr. class |
aaaGetting your art out into the marketplace requires a lot of hard work and dedication. This class will cover the basics of how to get it done (except legal). We'll jump off by talking about your goals. Then, I will discuss the importance of creating a strong foundation of marketing materials: good photographs and jpegs, a good short biography, an artists' statement, business card, and a price list.
aaa Next topic is how to get your work exhibited: “Call” sites, local arts organizations, self-representation, gallery representation, online portfolios, existing art and news web sites, artists' cooperatives, group shows, local venues. We will also discuss some of the important resource web sites available to artists.
asa Once your work is being shown, you will want to get the word out. I will show you how to write a short and long press release, as well as how to distribute releases to the media and talk about creating your own email distribution list.
aaa A significant packet of handouts, including an invaluable press release distribution list, is included with the class. A full curriculum is available from the Instructor. This class is being taught by Ellen Martin, a former Marketing Director, artists' representative and art consultant, who has a BA in Art History from Brooklyn College.
TUITION: $25 (cash or check only); Limit to 20 artists Saturday, March 20th; 10:00 am - 12:30 pm.
